•      Students should find out any vocabulary that is new or difficult for them. Discuss
the vocabulary problems that they encountered, and discuss any unusual facts they learned.
•     When all the students have finished, discuss their results. Tell students to prepare for a short or mini debate about the advantages and disadvantages of sports, using facts they have learned. Divide them  into two (2) groups and proceed with the debate
 •    Students should practice the usage of the vocabularies in the debate.

ARTICLE REVIEW

ARTICLE REVIEW

The following article review is taken from a journal entitled the, JOURNAL OF LITERACY AND TECHNOLOGY VOLUME 10, NUMBER 2: JUNE 2009, ISSN: 1535-0975. This journal is written into several subtopics. It is divided into three (3) sections which are consisted two (2) articles and one (1) research study. These are the three (3) sections of the journal:

Wireless ESL: How second language students, instructors, and  administrators envision our laptop classrooms.

C) Should Four-Year Olds Use Computers to Develop Emergent Literacy Skills?: A Study of the Waterford Early Reading Program.

This particular article is produced by two (2) authors which are Heidi J. Stevenson, Ph.D.Benerd School of Education University of the Pacific 3601 Pacific Avenue Stockton, CA 95211 and Rachelle Kisst Hackett Benerd School of Education University of the Pacific 3601 Pacific Avenue Stockton, CA 95211.

SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE

This journal is written purposely to find out the usage and ability of stakeholders of the university towards the computers technology. According to Dr. Meredith W. Zoetewey (2009), This article presents the case of a laptop computer writing classroom for non-native speakers of English at a large, public research university. Participants included ESL students, instructors, and administrators connected to the classroom. Data came from official documents pertaining to the classroom, site observations, questionnaires, tape-recorded interviews and focus groups, and written reflections. Dr Meredith (2009) also stated that This study promotes the consideration of L2 learners’, instructors’, andadministrators’ preferences, and provides the field with heuristics for outfitting and ordering wireless classrooms. The third section is the one that is focused in this review. This research is  actually done to the Waterford Early reading program which consisted of a target group of 4 years old children. According to Heidi J. Stevenson (2009) this research is intended to solve issue regarding the literacy. It is stated Early childhood educators may have difficulties therefore, in attempting to compensate for home environments which do not foster emergent literacy, and differentiating reading instruction in an effort to meet the needs of all students.
While currently under researched (Kamil & Lane, 1998; Tracey & Young, 2007), a technologically-focused approach to differentiating instruction, such as employing an Integrated Learning System (ILS), may prove effective in developing emergent literacy. For the purposes of this study ILS is defined as a computer management system that assesses students and places them in an individualized sequence of lessons appropriate to their learning level. There are a variety of ILSs that focus directly on emergent literacy skills such as phonological awareness, alphabetical principles, word identification, and basic concepts of print. The present study will focus on a particular ILS, Waterford Early Reading Program Level 1 (WERP-1). WERP-1 software assists in developing the above-mentioned skills through stories, songs, and rhymes. As far for sample of the research, Heidi J. Stevenson (2009) stated that, Participants were drawn from twelve classes at six preschool sites in the same school district. All sites included preK classrooms with students who possessed relatively low test scores, and used Houghton Mifflin’s Pre-K text, “Where Bright Futures Begin!” There were morning and afternoon classes at the six sites with approximately 20 students per class. The three treatment sites each had two computers equipped with WERP-1 software, and employed teachers who were interested in using WERP-1 and willing to fully participate in all components of the study. The findings of the research The results suggest that use of WERP-1 for the prescribed time period of 12-minute sessions five days a week significantly increased these pre-kindergarten students’ abilities to identify the sounds associated with letters. Phonological awareness is necessary for success in both the ability to read and spell words. Therefore, teachers, principals, and parents hope to assist children in developing this skill as easily and quickly as possible.
This journal has caught my attention as a whole especially on the conducted study about the usage of an intergrative and interactive software for the sake of young children literacy. This is because we do know that the development of cognitive ability begins at the early age and it is very important for the children to be undergoing such a great program particularly the program that is fully in computing technology. This will allow their learning and thinking skills simultenously increasing without letting one or other left out. This will eventually helps to contributing to the whole development of a literacy in term of educational skill and others high skill, which are very important in this challenging era. In my opinion this research is a well conducted research. This is because the group respondents that is selected. The selected repondents are among the early age children and how it is cross related to development of computing technologies. Another thing is the collection of results had really made amazed me. Those results had opened my eyes and made me realized the importance of early exposure towards education and the implementation of highly technology education is something that should be done by all community around the world. This research must be one of the researchs that should be implemented and extended in the teaching and learning of ESL in Malaysia. This is because, few of implications that can positively affect our future generation. First of all, the production of our future generation will be at one step further than the past generation in their involvement and performance in teaching and learning aspect. This will further improve the education system that we are implementing at the moment as a whole. Secondly the production of citizen who is really high in computing technologies literacy must be done at the early stage of education. This will allow students have more interactive session in acquiring knowledge and promote longevity in finding more knowledge in the future. Our future is at the hands of our children. If we mold them to a high quality person a much more victories will be claimed by us in the future.
